Had many steels over the years, many are to course or fine. Ceramics tend to clog too easy. This is far the best I've used. Lovely weight, the surface is coarse enough to make sharpening effortless!
If you have invested in expensive knives then you should invest in a proper tool to keep them maintained. The honing steel keeps the knives in excellent condition!
My wife is a chef and loves this! It's very beautiful and has an unusually graceful quality to it! Note: this is only the honing steel!
